QWC: The Summer Games 2017 is an upcoming tournament with rules loosely based on the osu! World Cup. It is scheduled to start in early July of 2017.
Rules
Registration Rules
- Registration phase is now closed. There may be up to two teams per region at this point in time. If you are not content with joining a pre-existing one, you may make your own, but it is highly recommended that you join an existing team if there are open slots.
- Anyone can register at this point in time, but with a catch: You have until the end of June 1st, 2017, GMT, to fulfill the Level 55 requirement. Any individuals below Level 55 after that time will have their reservations cancelled. You may attempt to rejoin if you reach Level 55 after the deadline, but your spot will no longer be guaranteed.
- If you would like to register as Team Captain, you must be Level 55 or above.
- Your picks must follow the Team Rules as outlined below.
Team Rules
- You must have between 4-8 players on a team.
- The players must all be above Level 55 in the Pokémon topic.
- The players on a team must be from the same region.
- Unless the slots in your region's team are full, you may not play for a team whose location you are not geographically residing in.
- No more than 1 player over Level 700 at a time is permitted to play for a team in a given round (one set of games). This means that your team must have at least 3 players under Level 700.
Match Rules
- Disclaimer: Remember that this tournament is a TEAMS TOURNAMENT. The tournament is designed to represent the skill of every member on your team, and results are in no way determined by a single 1v1. Points for each round are awarded for team performance.
- If both teams are available at a given time, they may agree to schedule a live match. A live match is where everyone on the team actively discusses and plays matches at the same time.
- Every player participating in the match will play one game in the QWC: Warm-Up Pool topic as a warm-up. They will upload their screenshots to a specified results channel on the QuizUp World Cup Discord, OR the QWC: Game Result Thread topic.
- Failure to submit warm-ups, without advance notice that you will not be participating in that round, will result in disqualification from that match, along with penalties incurred to the rest of your team.
- Before each round in a match starts:
- Each team captain picks four people to play in the first round (set of games).
- Each player will individually decide on which modifications to apply to their game. Two modifications can be active at a time, and no two players using mods can have the same combinations of them (i.e. you can have one player with and another with , but not two players with .) Obviously, more than one person can elect not to use mods.
- Your opponents will be posted on the corresponding match channel in the QuizUp World Cup Discord. Players on each team will play against the set of four on the other team, in four separate 1v1s depending on level order. (ie. the highest leveled player chosen to play will face the highest leveled player chosen on the other team, etc.)
- You will have 16-24 hours to complete these matches (depending on your location in the bracket). When completed, upload the screenshots to Discord on your team channel.
- When all games in a round have been completed, the moderators will compare the wins and losses of each team.
- If one team has more wins, they gain the point.
- If teams have the same number of wins, the tie is broken by total score.
- If the total scores are the same, the tie is broken by the total scores of the winners on each side.
- If the total scores of the winners are the same, the tie is broken by total raw score (score before mods are applied).
- If the unmodded scores are the same, then neither team gains a point, but the match moves to the DRAW phase. The next round's winner gains 2 points. If it's another tie, both teams gain a point.
- 4. After points have been allocated, the next round is played.
- 5. The first team to fulfill the winning condition wins.
Group Stage
- The group stage will be a round-robin with 4 teams in each group. The top team from each group moves on to the Bracket Stage in Winners' Bracket, while the 2nd and 3rd place teams from each group move on in Losers' Bracket. 4th place teams are eliminated.
- Rules on team swaps:
- For a team with 5 or 6 available players, one player must be swapped out every round.
- For a team with 7 or 8 available players, two players must be swapped out every round.
- You may not repeat swaps.
- Each match is a best of 4. This means that there is the possibility of having a 2-2 draw, which is OK.
Bracket Stage
- The bracket stage will have the following parameters:
- WR1, LR1, LR2 - Best of 5
- WF, LSF, LF - Best of 7
- GF - Best of 9
- Before each set begins, the team captains will roll a number between 1 and 100 on the match channel.
- The team that wins the roll will pick the first side topic of the match (on game 2).
- Both teams will then ban one topic of their choosing; this topic cannot be chosen for the rest of that match. The losing team will ban first.
- The first game of each match will always be on the main topic.
- After this, the two competing teams will alternate between side topic picks, starting with the winner of the pre-match roll. If a topic is selected, it cannot be played on for the remainder of the set. Teams may select from these categories:
- Main Pokémon Topic - You cannot ban the main topic. Not counting the first game of the match, you may pick the main topic once in a Best of 7, and twice in a Best of 9. You cannot pick the main topic in a Best of 5 set.
- In-Game:
- Gen I-II
- Gen III-V
- Gen VI-VII
- Items & Berries
- Natures & Abilities
- Problem Solving
- Beta Elements
- You may choose any four available members of your team to play in any game (team swaps are unlimited). The restriction on Level 700+ players is lifted for side topics only. Moderators cannot play on side topics.
